Abel & Cole is one of the UK's leading organic food delivery companies, operating a complex supply chain that sources fresh produce from farms across the country and delivers directly to customers' doors. With time-sensitive fulfilment processes and a commitment to quality, any system disruption could have a direct impact on customer experience.

Veriland Consulting delivered a complete upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations in just 15 working days — from project kick-off to go-live. This is one of the fastest ERP upgrades of its scale, achieved through Veriland's fixed-scope delivery model and deep expertise in the Dynamics platform.

The Challenge

Abel & Cole had been operating on Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 — a capable but ageing platform that was limiting the business in several critical areas.

  • End of mainstream support: AX 2012 was approaching end of extended support, creating risk around security patches, compliance, and future vendor support.
  • Limited cloud integration: The on-premise architecture made it difficult to leverage modern cloud services, Power Platform tools, and real-time analytics.
  • Agility constraints: Customisation and change delivery on the legacy platform was slow, hindering the business's ability to respond to market demands.
  • Rising infrastructure costs: Maintaining on-premise servers, backups, and disaster recovery was consuming IT budget that could be better deployed elsewhere.
  • Minimal downtime tolerance: As an organic food delivery operation, Abel & Cole could not afford extended system outages. The upgrade had to be fast, reliable, and minimally disruptive to live operations.

Our Solution

Veriland delivered the upgrade through a fixed-scope, time-boxed model designed to eliminate the uncertainty and cost overruns that plague traditional ERP migrations.

3-Week Fixed-Scope Delivery

The entire upgrade — from project kick-off to production go-live — was completed in 15 working days. Finance & Supply Chain Migration

All finance modules — general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and management reporting — were migrated to D365 Finance. Supply chain operations including procurement, inventory management, and warehouse processes were upgraded to D365 Supply Chain Management.

Data Migration & Validation

Veriland executed a comprehensive data migration strategy covering master data, open transactions, and historical records. Rigorous validation processes ensured zero data loss throughout the cutover, with automated reconciliation checks at each stage.

Code Uplift & Customisation Refactoring

Legacy AX 2012 customisations were analysed, and those still relevant were refactored for the D365 extension model. Outdated customisations were retired where standard D365 functionality now covered the requirement, reducing technical debt.

End-User Enablement & Hypercare

Targeted training sessions were delivered to key users, supplemented by a hypercare support period post go-live to ensure a smooth transition and rapid issue resolution.
